Monthly Retailer Category Tips — First Aid

by Kelly Zygowski, category analyst, part of Monthly Retailer Category Tips

The first aid category ranks 7th in the independent pharmacy class of trade. Use the tips below to spruce up your department and build traffic and sales!

Our analysts created a list of 17 items that should be in all first aid kits. As the graphic suggests, create a display near the pharmacy with these items and a checklist to help shoppers keep track of the items they need to restock. In addition to the basics, there are other items that can be suggested to further build the basket. For instance, customers who have children in sports want to include blister relief, sunscreen, and lip balm with SPF. Camping enthusiasts want to include poison ivy washes and creams, burn care, stomach and nausea remedies, anti-diarrheals, blister relief, sunscreen, and lip balm with SPF. Use signage to suggest additional items for situational needs.

There were four first aid products introduced in 2025 that our analysts chose as Products to Watch for Drug Store News.
