part four in the Total Recall blog post series by Dave Wendland
Hollywood’s Walk of Fame comprises more than 2,500 five-pointed stars embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California. The stars are permanent public monuments to achievement in the entertainment industry, bearing the names of actors, musicians, directors, producers, musical and theatrical groups, fictional characters, and others.
What is your claim to fame? Do you have something special and memorable that helps you stand apart from your competitors? Here are a few examples of independent pharmacies deserving of a star:
- A single store location that combines nutritional counseling, diet and exercise coaching, and traditional pharmacy
- There’s the store with a custom-painted Mini Cooper delivery vehicle that is literally the talk of the town; or the store that converted an old Scooby-Doo style van for their delivery truck
- There’s one store I know of that has a weekly farmer’s market right inside its four walls
- Another pharmacy worked with its local community to house the library that would have otherwise been closed
- And, speaking of claims to fame, who among us hasn’t heard of Wall Drug?
So, consider what passersbys should know about your store within the first three seconds that they may tell someone else. If all you offer is the exact same services, products, and experience as the store down the block, you’ll never get your star on the walk of fame.
Claim to fame is the third element of five that help you remain memorable. In prior blogs I’ve shared the importance of your business’ name and your line of business. Watch for my posts on the last two elements: price and personality.
