Waukesha, Wisconsin — November 3, 2022 — The HRG management team recently completed a leadership program led by Larry O’Brien, adjunct instructor at Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) Corporate Training Center.
The 12-hour course covered topics such as, communication, emotional intelligence, dealing with difficult conversations, and giving and receiving feedback. O’Brien led the four 3-hour sessions on-site at HRG which made it very convenient. The training followed a structured agenda but also allowed for free-flowing conversation throughout.
Beth Maas, SPHR, director of human resources at HRG said, ”Post covid, HRG became more flexible with remote work situations and our managers have adapted to this new environment because of their strong desire to keep our pre-covid culture intact.”
Maas continued, “We have a wonderful leadership team, including newer and long-standing members who have wide-ranging experience. As with any organization, even though we work well together, it was nice to spend this dedicated time to regroup and refocus. It was an opportunity to open up and share experiences with one another which we don’t always take the time to do on a regular basis. It was a worthwhile investment to reinvigorate and recharge our team.”
O’Brien stated, “From the moment I sat down with this group of leaders, the chemistry was natural and authentic. I was struck by how hungry they were to lead, succeed, and drive HRG forward. It certainly was a room full of strong personalities, all of whom liked each other and were focused on self-improvement to deliver best-in-class service for their customers.”
“Beth was spot-on when I asked her to describe the HRG culture,” O’Brien continued. “She said, ‘Our people are our greatest asset.’ Investing in leadership training to expose each other’s ‘superpowers’ was a clear indicator of HRG’s commitment to better leverage talent, empathy, and innovative thinking. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with all of them!”
“With more than 30 years of marketing, public relations, and media training, Larry was a great fit with our team,” Maas said. “And setting up the training with WCTC was a great experience. They learned about our organization and worked with us to find the course that was the best fit. We were happy to have a local resource to work with and as a small business, it helped that it was cost-effective.”
