Web apps have gotten so easy to use, even monkeys are using them.

Well, Mailchimps, Picmonkeys, and Surveymonkeys, anyway.

Ape-inspired apps are making what were once high-level computer functions easy, useable, and fun. Mailchimp, Picmonkey, and Surveymonkey are three examples of free, simple to use web applications that your pharmacy can use to increase communication with customers and build your business strategy.

Mailchimp is a delightful email marketing platform that offers dozens of templates for you to create engaging, attractive customer newsletters or digital communications. If you’re gathering your customers’ email addresses and aren’t sure what to do with them, Mailchimp is an easy way to develop regular ecommunication efforts. Mailchimp is free to use if you have 2,000 subscribers or less, and offers drag-and-drop templates that let you customize the layout and look of your communications.chimps

Business benefit: Not only do you generate customer goodwill by offering relevant, engaging communications, but Mailchimp offers detailed analytics that tell you which customers are opening your newsletters, which aren’t, and which have given you bogus email addresses so you don’t waste time trying to contact them. Mailchimp automatically cleans and updates your email list with each send.

Picmonkey allows you to edit digital photographs with ease. If you don’t have experience with Photoshop or other image editing software, this site lets you upload images and crop, enhance, resize, and add text or themes with the click of your mouse. It’s extremely user-friendly and completely free, although additional editing features are available with paid subscriptions.

Business benefit: Quickly, easily edit and create unique images to suit enewsletters, print ad specifications, social media requirements, or direct mail pieces.

Surveymonkey is the web’s premiere online survey tool. You can design your own surveys (with suggestions from Surveymonkey to make sure your questions are well phrased), collect responses, and review Surveymonkey’s analytics to determine the impact on your business.

Business benefit: Want to know if customers are having a good experience in-store? Want to know what products they wished you carried? If you have questions for your customers, Surveymonkey will answer them. The information gathered through these surveys can then be used to direct your future planning.

There are hundreds of free web apps that can help small businesses such as yours reach customers and make an impact, and you don’t have to be a computer programmer to use them — being a pharmacist will do just fine.
