April 2, 2014 – For the sixth consecutive year, Tom Boyer of Hamacher Resource Group, Inc. (HRG), presented to first-year students in the Pharmacy Practice program at Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. Boyer, a 20-year veteran of the retail consumer healthcare industry, director of national accounts, and co-owner at HRG, presented a session about pharmacy layout and front-of-store merchandising principles, March 26.

The goal of the presentation is to expose students to the importance and impact that a well-designed front-end stocked with the right products can have in a pharmacy’s success. Boyer shows through examples how placing an emphasis on the pharmacy’s non-prescription business will help build customer loyalty and can increase sales.

Illuminating student feedback from Boyer’s session this year includes:

• “Prior to his lecture…I didn't consider the placement of aisles, the design of fixtures and the location of the pharmacy as important as I do now.”

• “Hearing about floor design was very interesting as well. It's amazing that such simple thing can have such a large effect on whether or not the consumer will buy something.”

• “It was interesting to hear from a marketers perspective all the detail and thought processes that go into setting up a store to attract customers. The visual aids that he provided us in class were helpful in discerning what looked best and would encourage sales and repeat customers.”
